Life Back in the Secular World

We have completed the MTC.  We are now waiting for our departure on Monday Nov. 19th for Istanbul.  I must say that the time at the MTC was a real blessing.  It is particularly great to be completely removed from all the hustle and bustle of life.  Well not completely, we looked at some on line stuff and we knew that the country had decided to stay on the down slope so that Mr. Obama could have more personal vacation time, but we were not bombarded daily with all the mindless trivial.
Our final days at the MTC were a real insight into the horrible action of simply giving the needy what they want.  The LDS welfare process is without doubt inspired.  We were given tools to find and provide support with an expectation of personal sustainability.  What a concept.  Basically the fish story... Give a man a fish and eats a meal, teach a man to fish and he eats forever without a personal need.
It was a gratifying experience and hard to leave.  It is amazing how soon the compression of the world comes back at us and we will simply need to lose ourselves in the service of others.  My advise to anyone out there who really wants a great life experience, serve a mission, the two weeks in the MTC are worth anything else we have to face.
Hopefully our next post will have life photos from our view of Istanbul.

  1. Reading your experiences is so inspiring to me! I feel like a proud parent who has sent their kids off to camp and am delighted by their letters home... except that I am the child and am so blessed by your examples and can't wait to have these types of experiences some day! But in the nearer future, I CAN"T WAIT to come visit you and TURKEY and see your work firsthand!!! I love you both and am so proud to have such awesome PARENTS!!!
