We are MTC bound in just a week and we will be in Istanbul in a little over 3 weeks. We are in the final process of suspending our daily life here in Fort Collins. I challenge you to try to suspend or cancel your life in under 3 days.
All the electronic stuff creates a unique leash that tethers us to what ever our daily existence really is. Bills that are automatic, contracts that self renew and obscure expenses that exist without a real understanding of where they began. It took me approximately 3 hours to try to resolve how to switch our email address to Adam's comcast account. I spoke with people from India, Mexico, the Philippines and three different states in the US before finally getting a plan that until it actually happens I still question. It costs me $170.00 just to stop service with Verizon because we are premature in our contract term. Notice that the on-line service does not even have a category for canceling service. You have to call and then try to convince someone that you really do need to stop service.
For all the ease of our electronic life, we are bound beyond reality. Your email address is regulated by the government and is considered private property, but you cannot simply reassign it to yourself under another server. However you can create essentially unlimited accounts and then never use them. I visualize a massive residual of data simply growing within old unused accounts that can not really be abandoned. Who says the concept of eternity is beyond reason, we create it every day.
We have sold Nori's beloved Lincoln, shutdown the cave (my shop) and throughly cleaned the house. NOTE: Cancel that "we" for cleaning the house, Nori has cleaned the house. The sprinklers are blown out and who knows what our property will look like when we return.
And the final sad story, we are not sure if we have actually cancelled anything. We will have to wait for those automated bills to see if we really have succeeded with our intent.
Serving cannot be as difficult as preparing to serve.
I can only imagine! It's funny to think that Nori was ever able to do all of that PLUS raise 6 children! Running a household is an immense amount of work. And its sounds like suspending it is just as challenging. I hope you will be relieved to get away!
