The Great Unknown

We are now within 6 weeks of our new life adventure.  We remain very excited, but it is with a little trepidation.  Each day I begin to wonder if it will really happen and not just because it has been such a long wait.  We visited SLC and the Church office folks that oversee the humanitarian services a couple of weeks ago.  We learned that major changes are in store for the Turkey mission.  Apparently the government has now passed a bill that will provide wheelchairs to all needful people so the Church will discontinue wheelchair distribution.
In speaking with the Canfield's this morning, they keep reminding us that we need to be flexible because so much is in transition.  This is the heart of my concern.  The Elders have been removed from Turkey and there is no current plan for their return.  The Church is facing some major opposition from ex members that have taken their complaint to the government.  Elder Nelson is planning to meet with government officials to try to revive our opportunities to work in Turkey.  And now all major initiatives have been discontinued in Turkey.
I wonder, will we be going, what is the environment we will be facing, what is really going on.  I would certainly hate to end up not going and then being reassigned to some other location.  We are certainly in the midst of major beginnings or endings for the Church in Turkey!!

  1. Holy cow! That would make me so nervous especially after all the work you've put into going there. I'm hoping that it all works out with you going there!
